Picking the Right Perfume-Fragrance

So, you want to pick out a new designer perfume, but not too sure what you want. This happens a lot, believe it or not. You as a person have your own name, own style, own personality completely different and separate from anyone else. You are a unique person; your own individual. Your creativity is linked to your sense of style; your sense of flair linked to your own bubbly personality.

You already know what kind of clothes you like to wear and what kind of people you like to hang out with. But now is a unique question: what do you want to smell like? There are so many perfumes out there not to mention musks, misks, deodorants, sprays, cremes, and the like. These days in fact it seems the market is flooded with beauty and fashion products, and trying to figure out which one you want or need can be confusing. But fear not! Below we break it down which works for what person, being creme, musk, misk, deodorant and the like. We even get into sprays and roll-on deodorants.

This guide below applies to both men and women.

If you sweat a lot

For people that sweat a lot, no matter what sex you are, you will want a roll-on deodorant stick. Roll-on deodorants provide more protection and will last longer then a spray-on because of the manner it is applied to the skin. A roll-on deodorant stick such as Speed Stick pride their product on the fact that it will last longer then other deodorants.

Perfumes vs Body Sprays vs Deodorants

Body spray and deodorant (if it is spray on) are very similar products. However, deodorants and body sprays differ from perfume. Deodorant and body spray is meant to mask the natural odor produced from the body while perfume is meant to go on top of deodorant. Many people will prefer to wear a roll-on deodorant and then a perfume on top of that, but few will wear a perfume and no deodorant at all.

Going to a day event

If you are going to an event during the day, it is usually best to have a shower, then apply a deodorant after the shower, or use a shower creme during the shower. Axe shower gel is a great product because the scent from the gel will stay on the skin after the shower as well. If you are going to a lengthy day event bring some perfume, musk or cologne. And if you will be working out or exercising we recommend roll on deodorant over the spray.

Going to a night event

When you go out at night things tend to be more formal, and often you'll want to make more of an impression (like going out on a date, or visiting the night club). In this case we recommend either roll-on or spray deodorant/body spray (such as Axe) and then a fragrance over top. Myself I like to spray on some Axe after the shower and then put on some cologne on top of that.

Some people prefer not to layer - layering meaning putting on a body spray then a perfume over top. If you are layering you have to be very careful your two scents do not contrast greatly. For instance, wearing a body spray that smells like raspberry and then wearing a strong Swiss Army cologne on top would likely create two very contrast scents that would repel one another.

Home Remedies for Body Odor

Body odor is normally present when a person sweats, and the more one sweats the more odors arise. However, it is not the sweat that causes the odor, but rather it is the toxins that the sweat brings out of the body.

Nonetheless, body odor is offensive and can be embarrassing in situations when it is not manageable. Thus body sprays, antiperspirants and deodorants are used to mask the odor temporarily.

However, antiperspirants and deodorants contain aluminum, which contributes to diseases such as Alzheimer's and many types of cancers. Therefore many who are aware of those facts opt for home remedies to help control body odor.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is one of the cheapest home remedies that can be used. It is powerful in neutralizing odors, and can be applied to the underarms after a bath or shower, as well as throughout the day when the odor arises.

Additionally, taking a bath in baking soda water will help to draw out toxins that contribute to body odor.

Vinegars

White vinegar as well as apple cider vinegar can be applied to the underarms after a bath or shower.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are also effective when applied to the underarms, or when added to the bath water. They can also be added to a small amount of water and be used as a body spray.

Hot Baths

A hot bath helps to promote sweating. Sweating helps to rapidly eliminate toxins from the body so that when the body breaks into a sweat afterwards, fewer toxins will be released, and thus body odor is reduced.

Certain Foods

There are many foods that can help to eliminate body odor by helping the body to get rid of toxins via the stool, urine and sweat. Once the toxins are eliminated the foul odor will be not be as noticeable anymore.

The foods to help with eliminating toxins are all plant-based foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices and nuts and seeds. Herbs are particularly helpful in reducing the odor, as they have an aroma that naturally helps to mask the offensive odors. The best herbs to consider are mints, cilantro, cloves, lemon balm, parsley and ginger root.

Piping For a New Shower - New Shower Fixtures

SHOWER RAIN DOME: This a pretty easy upgrade. Basically it's a huge shower head that makes you feel like you're standing under a gentle waterfall. They come in different shapes and sizes, square and round, large, medium, and small. The only thing you have to consider is the height of the shower. They typically hand from the center of the shower ceiling and sometimes they sit lower in the shower. If the shower doesn't have enough head room you'll whack your noggin on it.

SLIDE BAR WITH A HAND HELD SHOWER: This can be done in two different ways. Usually a slide bar is installed with an adjustable bracket that holds a snap in hand held shower. The slide bar and hand held shower can also be installed next to a stationary shower head. The shower arm is usually installed with a small diverter valve that directs the water from the stationary shower head to the hand held.

BODY SPRAYS: Body sprays can be mounted just about anywhere but they are usually mounted in pairs or, more commonly, in threes. Most times when body sprays are installed a diverter valve must also be installed to divert the water from the fixed shower head to the body sprays.

SHOWER TOWERS: A lot of manufacturers are beginning to manufacture all-in-one shower towers which combine a rain dome shower head, body sprays and a hand held shower in one convenient space saving panel. Jacuzzi's J-shower (shower panel), Kohler's DVT or Waterhaven and Grohe's Aquatower are a few examples. These can be as simple as three body sprays and a shower rain dome and as complex as body sprays, shower rain dome, slide bar with hand held, sound system with IPod dock and LCD complete with Internet connection. These options can be quite expensive, but are generally set up to be "plug and play". Just a word of caution, if you do happen to choose a Kohler DVT, have a plumbing technician that knows his stuff, these need special attention. As long as the opening is correct and the pipe sizing is right, you're good to go.

STEAM GENERATOR: Steam generator units are becoming more and more popular in a homeowner's shower. A steam unit can be installed behind a wall or inside a shower seat. Water is piped to the unit and it is heated to steam, the steam releases through a head or heads in the shower. As with most of the above, these can become quite complex, having custom controls and even aroma therapy.

Applying Designer Perfume and Body Spray

How much perfume is too much? You've probably been around the person wearing too much fragrance in public or in an office - the scent, no matter how pleasant, is often overbearing and distracting. But, aside from being a distraction, too much perfume can actually be a health hazard for some, particularly those with asthma. Perfume can be worn to make an impression, if subtle, but too much might give the wrong type of impression - that you're covering up some kind of body odor. When you plan to wear perfume, think of those that will be around you and try to tone down the scent.

Whether you're wearing a designer perfume or a body spray, basic application of the scent can go a long way. One suggestion is to use scent only on "warm spots" - the wrist, ears, inner elbows, and the neck near the collar bone. For some, this may be too much, and picking out one of these places - the wrist or neck, in particular - is best. Body sprays, on the other hand, should be misted to be like a dust all over. Before you purchase any designer perfume or body spray, make sure it suits you by testing it first, and never mix it with other fragrances when wearing, be it scented deodorant or hair products.

In other instances, wearing any perfume is simply too much. A recent court case in Detroit decided that workers in three city buildings shouldn't wear any scents - no perfume, cologne, aftershave, or deodorant - after a city worker in 2008 filed a lawsuit after a coworker wearing perfume made the environment a challenge to work at. Presently, all scented products are banned from these city government buildings in Detroit.
